Highlights from 2009 National Symposium

The 2009 Liberty Education Forum National Symposium drew close to 200 activists for an exciting event that raised fifteen thousand dollars to support educational programming. The April 18th event in Washington, DC covered an array of topics including the following highlights:

  • Scott Schmidt, PR expert and Political Consultant, explained how the Liberty Education Forum is using the latest online tools to increase support among conservatives and people of faith.
  • Emmy nominated director Johnny Symons presented a screening of “Ask Not,” a documentary focusing on efforts to overturn “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. Film subjects Jarrod Chlapowski and his partner Alex Nicholson participated in the film discussion that followed.
  • A panel discussion was held on repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” that featured Retired Rear Admiral Jamie Barnet and Nathaniel Frank, author of Unfriendly Fire: How the Gay Ban Undermines the Military and Weakens America.
  • Leading Estate Attorney Craig Max, along with Stephanie Sherman of Prudential Financial and James Tissot of Pride Planners Association presented a panel discussion on protecting and investing your money wisely in a time of economic uncertainty.
  • National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Chairman Walter Schubert led a discussion on the challenges being faced by the gay and lesbian business community.
  • The Liberty Education Forum presented National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Chairman Walter Schubert with the Liberty Award. The Award was also given to Hugh Rouse and Len Olds, which will be now known as the Rouse Olds Award.
