Liberty Education Forum today announced that Jack Drescher, M.D. has become a Visiting Scholar in the organization’s newly launched Scholars Bureau. Dr. Drescher joins Dr. Simon LeVay at Liberty Education Forum as a credentialed expert in the field of the science of sexual orientation.
“So-called ‘reparative therapy,’ whether or not people ‘choose’ to be gay, and perpetual myths about sexual orientation remain topics of conversation all across the country,” Drescher said. “The focus of Liberty Education Forum on separating scientific facts about homosexuality from political fictions is vitally important, and I’m glad to lend LEF my voice to the discussion as a Visiting Scholar.”
A leader in his profession, Dr. Drescher is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in private practice in New York City. He is President of the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a Past President of APA’s New York County Branch.
Dr. Drescher has served as a member of and leader in numerous distinguished psychiatric, medical and scientific organizations. He has also authored and edited more than a score of scholarly books dealing with the science of sexuality and gender.
His numerous media appearances about issues of sexuality include spots on ABC (World News Tonight, Good Morning America, 20/20, and Nightline), CBS (Sunday Morning), PBS (In The Life), CTV (AM Canada), CNN (Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, Paula Zahn), Fox (The O’Reilly Factor, Fox News), MSNBC (The Most), Court TV (Bloom and Politan, Open Court), and NPR (On Point, Here and Now, To the Point). His expert views have been sought and quoted by The Associated Press, Time, Newsweek, People, Esquire, The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, The Miami Herald, and numerous local media outlets. He is an occasional contributor to The Huffington Post, FoxNews.com and PsychologyToday.com.
“As an expert in the science of sexual orientation who is able to communicate the facts to clinicians and lay people alike, Dr. Drescher is a welcome addition to LEF,” Liberty Education Forum Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo remarked. “His collaboration with Liberty Education Forum adds to a growing list of credentialed professionals whose involvement with our organization precipitated the creation of the Liberty Education Forum Scholars Bureau: a special division of our thriving Speakers Bureau focused on showcasing the work of psychiatrists, psychologists and medical professionals who are able to counter the sound bite distortions of political pundits and get to the facts about the real science of sexuality.”
