About

The Liberty Education Forum (LEF) is a non-partisan 501(C) 3 organization that focuses on reaching out to conservatives and people of faith about issues facing gay and lesbian Americans, focusing on research, speaker series and educational programming. LEF works hand in hand to underscore the importance of individual liberty, freedom and fairness for all Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation.

We recognize that liberty first and foremost is the foundation of our democratic society and the government governs best by respecting those basic rights. LEF uses the power of ideas to make sure all Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation, to reach out and create a broader understanding.

Our non-partisan approach allows us to rise above the political rhetoric that often obscures the search for creative solutions and new ideas. LEF replaces sound bites with sound insights. We replace old ideas with a new vision. By finding practical solutions to the challenges confronting gay and lesbian Americans, we help insure that tolerance and inclusion become permanent parts of our democratic society.

The fundamental tenants of liberty are grounded in the historic right for individuals to advance one’s voice and life without adverse government interference; this ideal underscored the founding of our nation and is increasingly relevant today. We focus our attention on research and outreach on a variety of important issues for gay and lesbian Americans. Of particular focus is the conservative case for equality of same-sex relationships, which allows couples to be treated the same regardless of whom they love. Families themselves are conservative institutions and it serves the benefit of the entire country to have equal access to these same rights.

Another issue of fairness and balance for American families and businesses is our tax code.  Our founders knew that Americans could not prosper if they were overburdened with a tax code that harms more than helps in supporting a prosperous society; this belief is still alive and well today. LEF educates people about discriminatory tax policies that burden gay and lesbian families. We also lead the way in providing research about the death tax which harms the economy, hurts small businesses, and penalizes success.

As our nation enters a new era, the fundamental tenets of liberty are more important than ever.
